Hoy, frente al Templo Mayor, se llevó a cabo un acto conmemorativo por los 500 años del asesinato de Cuauhtémoc, el último tlatoani mexica. A medio milenio de su muerte, su figura sigue siendo un emblema de resistencia ante la opresión y un recordatorio de la lucha incesante de los pueblos indígenas en México.
En este evento participaron diversas comunidades originarias, como los Triquis de Oaxaca, los Yaquis de Sonora, los Mayas, los Náhuatl, los purépechas y muchos otros, además de organizaciones como la Asamblea Nacional de Usuarios de Energía Eléctrica (ANUEE). Todos ellos se reunieron para honrar el legado de Cuauhtémoc y reafirmar su compromiso con la defensa de sus territorios, su cultura y sus derechos.
Más que historia: los pueblos indígenas en la lucha actual
Conmemorar a Cuauhtémoc no es solo recordar un episodio del pasado, sino reconocer que la lucha de los pueblos indígenas sigue vigente. No son parte del «folklore» ni reliquias del pasado; son comunidades vivas, que han resistido siglos de marginación, explotación y despojo, y que hoy siguen en pie de lucha por la autodeterminación, el respeto a sus tierras y la preservación de sus lenguas y tradiciones.
Los pueblos indígenas no solo han sido guardianes de la memoria histórica de México, sino que también son actores clave en la defensa del medio ambiente, la soberanía alimentaria y los derechos humanos. Su conocimiento sobre la naturaleza, la medicina tradicional y la organización comunitaria es invaluable en un mundo que enfrenta crisis ecológicas y sociales.
El reconocimiento pleno de sus derechos, la consulta libre e informada sobre proyectos que afectan sus territorios y la garantía de acceso a educación y salud sin discriminación son demandas que aún no han sido satisfechas. En este sentido, la conmemoración de Cuauhtémoc es también un llamado a la acción: un recordatorio de que la lucha sigue y que el futuro de México está indisolublemente ligado al destino de sus pueblos originarios.
Hoy, a 500 años, Cuauhtémoc no es solo un símbolo del pasado. Es un estandarte de la resistencia que sigue vigente en cada comunidad indígena que defiende su cultura, su tierra y su dignidad.
